As I should have made clearer, when I first posted this list on my journal on 16th February 2004, I’m not the author of this list: it was invented by GatorGSA as a Valentine’s Day project. I just picked it up on the Internet. I think it’s brilliant.
That’s the Gator Gay Straight Alliance of the University of Florida.
12 reasons why gay people should not be allowed to get married
1. Homosexuality is not natural, much like eyeglasses, polyester, and birth control. (You just imagined the penguins. Anyway, penguins are unnatural: they’re birds, they fly underwater. Nuff said.)
2. Heterosexual marriages are valid because they produce children. Infertile couples and old people can’t legally get married because the world needs more children.
3. Obviously, gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
4. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if Gay marriage is allowed, since Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage was meaningful.
5. Heterosexual marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are property, blacks can’t marry whites, and divorce is illegal.
6. Gay marriage should be decided by people, not the courts, because the majority-elected legislatures, not courts, have historically protected the rights of the minorities.
7. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire counrty. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
8. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
9. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
10. Children can never suceed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why single parents are forbidden to raise children.
11. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society. Heterosexual marriage has been around for a long time, and we could never adapt to new social norms because we haven’t adapted to things like cars or longer lifespans.
12. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because a “seperate but equal” institution is always constitutional. Seperate schools for African-Americans worked just as well as seperate marriages for gays and lesbians will.

1. I think that people are not born gay. I think it is one of two things maybe both is the cause. 1. chemical imbalance. 2. Childhood trauma or adolescent trauma, or even being raped or molested at any age. I know plenty of gay people and all of them have had trauma. Some do not even remember but then finally found out later in life. I do not think that confused people should be married gay or straight for that matter. society had become a joke and its because religion has been obsolete in schools. morals in general or gone. they keep getting striped away. People there has to be a line somewhere in the sand. the bible states. A man shall not lie with another man as he would a woman. it means he does not approve of being gay. also yeah if you are not religious gays cannot reproduce. its unnatural and is not meant to be. the species will not survive. if you look at a pedophile’s childhood they too had some sort of trauma. and then they just pass the trauma on. it is a vicious circle. the line has to be drawn. to prevent the repeated trauma. traditional marriage has enough problems as it is do we need this much more. I am not saying gays are pedophiles or they hurt children intentionally. but they have tremendous effects of young people’s views on life if they are raised by gay’s. people who have faulty views on life should not be able to adopt. if you want a child you know what you have to do (naturally) look at the abortion rate, crime, poverty, all because morals have gone out the window because of decades of faulty viewed people raising children. this country is doomed there is no turning back now.

I have a gay sister i am not gay but if you want to turn this into a religios thing well look at what OUR country has done to us. they are trying to take ALL of our rights from us and just because gays raise a child does not mean that they will be gay from my point of view it will make them a more open mined adult. have you looked at the diviorce rate in america? we as american people have let our country go down hill! we are suppose to be a free country, nothing is free anymore. If we, the american people, allow them to marry yes they can not reporduce but they could adopt! they would help get the kids out of foster home and into a home where they will be loved and cared for. No trauma in my life; there’s trauma in plenty of straight people’s lives, oh my, maybe half the population of the world is actually gay! Confused? If gay sex is not performed with caution, it can transfer diseases, and so that is why it is said in the BIble.
What is the obsession with the species surviving? I do not speak for everyone, but I personally do not see the important of creating a load of people who would be born into a world of hatred, war, stratification etc. and letting them burn down the environment. And as it stands, the world is incredibly over populated. It is not natural? Unless you’re religious, or don’t believe in evolution, you would think our bodies are not designed, they are just a product of evolution; therefore nothing is natural. If you are religious, then since there is an outstanding amount of evidence to prove that homosexuality is not a choice, but genetic, then since God made each one of us himself, I am obviously not flawed by an innate characteristic.

First, we were created in Godd image. Second, God gave you free will to make your own choices and act on your own feelings. third, it is a feeling that you get that makes you like the same sex, therefore, it is not any different than a rapest who feels he has to rape women to be sexually fulfilled. Also the molester who gets off on touching little kids. It’s all acted out on feelings that you have. I have feelings that I feel strongly about, but it doesn’t make them right or ok. Also with the bible it talks about traditions and ideas that are created by man and laws set by man. You cannot take what man created and use it to conflict what God has said! Getting married to a member of the same sex isn’t the same as marrying your family members. People are people, black or white, right? So what’s the difference between male or female. The writer of that artical was blind in the most fantastic way. Maybe we should just take gay people as slaves now? Because they aren’t ‘human’ because ‘humans’ deserve to marry who they want. Just like the blacks. They weren’t considered people. Now we have a black president. As foolish as he’s acting, he is still considered a person. So what now? Wow.. This list is utterly ridiculous, and very untrue. I’ve known gay people since I was a child, and I am not gay. Really why is it such a problem, they can’t choose who they love, just like you can’t choose who you love, how would you like it if society said you can’t marry someone. Just because they are gay doesn’t mean their children will be, I know plenty of gay people who have raised children just fine, and they aren’t gay. Studies have also proven that a child raised in a heterosexual home is no different than one raised in a same-sex home. AS for it’s unnatural, what is natural, there really isn’t a definition of natural, at least in society. Everyone is different. The all kinds of crazy really, that is really far fetched, do you really believe people will want to marry their dog, if you do you have a really strange Imagination. I really don’t think it is bad. Just let them get married, will it harm you that much.
What you should do is focus more on the institute of marriage. Marriage is a joke,what is our divorce rate, nearly 50% of couples get divorced. That is a problem. Not gay couples wanting the same rights as everyone else. I think you really need to look at your priorities.

I think these reasons are horrible! This is ridiculous. I’m not gay but I don’t understand what’s wrong with it. If it makes them happy why shouldn’t they be married? omg that is sooo stupid..who the fuck came up wit all of this. I mean just because gay people have children doesnt mean their children are gay (and I have seen many examples of that). Many of those children have actually grown up heterosexual and become doctors. Gays are born that way and shouldnt be descriminated against. People that are gay are sometimes very religious and whether they admit they are gay or not they are still gay. and wtf is that about people who are infertle or old are forbidden to have kids, and single parents are forbidden to raise kids? My next door neighbor is infertle so they adopted and they are such great parents. I cant imagine any one being a better parent, except for my mom. Who, by the way, was a single parent and is such a great role model for me and my brother. Who ever wrote this doesnt know what the fuck they are talking about and needs to get a life.

They could have been gay or straight: the original list was compiled by GatorGSA of the University of Florida for Valentine’s Day 2004. The Gator Gay-Straight Alliance sprang into being in the fall of 2000. The Alliance’s purpose is to end homophobia (and indeed all forms of discrimination). If two people love each other, why shuldn’t they marry? They want to share their lives together, there is no crime in that. Gay people will raise gay children? You couldn’t be more wrong! Straight people raise children, gay people raise children. Who ever these children become is partially due to environmental factors, but is down to that person. You cant help being gay no more than you can help needing glasses.
There us a massive difference between marrying your same sex partner, and marrying an animal. Gay people are gay, but they are humans, great humans just like any other human. And hello! Look at how many heterosexual marriages fail! Religion contradicts itself. All it preeches is how to love others as equals, and value each other. All you are saying is that they are immoral and wrong for being different! If we were all the same, it would be an awful world we live in. We are apparently “made in God’s image”, then that is what God is…Unique, special, divine and different for everyone!
People being gay doesn’t stop any heterosexual person from being straight. Same as heterosexual people can’t stop any homosexual from being gay. You are who you are, and you have basically devalued many inteligent people who know who they are and value themselevs, as they should. And another thing, children need a loving, stable home with support and guidance into life. Gay couples can do this to! They can give love, and show love, and guide and discipline when necessary. My mother is a single parent and has done a marvelous job. You dont need two parents of opposite sex to raise a child right, you need love.
Overall, who ever wrote this is shallow and stupid. Some of these comments were made by someone who clearly needs an education. We are all equal, and all apart of the world, that INCLUDES homosexual people.

I am gay. I don’t agree with these comments because if parents are gay that doesn’t mean the child would be gay and if the parents are straight that doesn’t determine whether the child would be straight or gay. I myself believe in God. I have grown up in the church, I believe that God excepts me the way I am because he is a merciful God. I love who I love, not because of gender but because of who makes me happy, love has no gender. You say its a sin to be gay but the question is did you lay and have sex with a man when you were not married? That is a sin as well but a Christian knows that judging someone is not a feature of Gods work, because he accept us for who we are. I love kids and kids love being around me I don’t influence them I tell them to follow their hearts because telling a child what he or she can’t do is nearly impossible because they are going to do it anyway. Just like when you were young and your mother told you don’t touch that pot because its hot but you didn’t know until you got burnt. Love is of the essence and the heart God doesn’t make mistakes he choose the person that will keep you happy and motivated. Just because I am gay doesn’t determine what or who I am. There is a lot of parents today who are married with their husbands and are not happy but they only do it because someone tells them what they are doing is an abomination to God. No one knows what is an abomination to God because they are not the master themselves he determines what is pleasing to the eye. In what is pleasing to his eye is accepting him as your lord and savior and not being afraid of who you are.

Whoever wrote this, you’re a FUCKING DUMBASS. First of all, WE DONT NEED MORE PEOPLE IN THIS WORLD. Ever heard of over population? Second, hanging around tall people will make you tall? What kind of TV do you watch? No matter how tall your friends are, IT WON’T MAKE YOU ANY TALLER. And no one is dumb enough to marry their pet. Why the fuck who anyone do that? An animal is not a person. Just because they passed a law for same sex marriage, doesn’t mean you can marry your pet! There’s definitely a big difference between man and animal. Gays are not any different from you or from me. They aren’t going around killing anyone. No one is being harmed by two people who love eachother getting married. Plus, nowhere in the Bill of Rights does it say same gender couples can’t get married. The constitution was made for EVERYONE in our country, not just heterosexuals. Marriage is about two people who love eachother wanting to make it official. That’s what it should be about. Not whether or not you are the same sex. As for religion, I respect their opinion and the way they live, but loving someone is not a sin. Going back to the constitution, religious people don’t have the right to deny someone of their rights. The same rights that they have. That should be sin. Oh, and not to mention I’M 14. WOMAN ARE PROPERTY?! WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU? I really hope one day your child is gay, so that you can have sooooo much guilt because you can’t do anything about it. One of your reasons say ‘gay couples raise gay children’. This is not true! My mother’s girlfriend raised a son, which is not gay! As well as a girl and neither is she. My mother came out about six years ago, and me nor my brothers are gay. Yes some children with gay parents may come out gay, but that is the lifestyle they chose. It’s not just because of their parents.
